You make a good point, and that is a big isue that nobody really has a good solution for (with the possible exception of manufacturing those parts from the original die and IP)

Accountability needs to be shared

In my opinion , in this fight against counterfeiting, the focal point should on implementing the strictest inspection procedures to ensure that the part being bought is genuine .

Instead of that everybody seems to be harping on qualifying the vendors.

All these regulations are trying to put all the blame on the vendor or distributor but some accountability should also be there for the user isn't it?

Sustainment without counterfeit parts?

Many legacy system sustainment is very difficult due to obsolete parts. These legacy systems maintenance does require parts from not approved vendors. This is a point from where counterfiet parts enters in system. Many people in system are aware of this, but they consdier it as necessary evil.

Like most big govt initiatives, progress will be slow and cumbersome.  However it does seem like they are trying to tie up the loose ends and make things less ambiguous.  The last example of buying from the sourcing disti makes sense.

Was there any progress made beyond semantics? It seems to me the key questions were left unanswered while the nit-picky stuff was addressed. I guess DNA could be considered progress...
