Not may be, it will!

Not many companies would brush it under the rug & let you continue the infringements.

@Hospice_Houngbo: Yes, if you replicate the part without permission it may be considered a counterfeited one and would violate copyrights.

Always have a substitute design on hand, in case hard-to-find becomes impossible-to-find.

@TaimoorZ,

"Also, what about composite components? "

That is a good point. The quality of the parts is a valid concern. Also there is an intellectual property issue that may prevent such operation.

@Hospice: 3D printing is good for producing prototypes and samples. I don't think you can rely on it as a substitute for actual parts. Because 3D printing is in initial stages, I don't think the quality can be really relied on. Also, what about composite components? You can't print those through 3D printers and you need a vendor to procure them.

@nimantha.d

An approved vendor-list (AVL) may depend on the manufacturer's business partners. But this list can become exhaustive and complete with time.

"When necessary, some of these companies can manufacture components using all the original specs. "

Even though this solution seems to be costly, it is nonetheless the best option for some businesses to get those "hard-to-find parts". But my question is:  Will the advent of 3D-printing make it easier to print those parts?

There are so many which I feel should be added to the list. Anyway I guess these are the critical list but I feel it might take some time to get things done up and running.

You've heard the saying "the No. 1 supply chain risk is your people." That hasn't always been the case. But today's complex global supply chain requires a new type of multitalented employee. It's one who understands, finance, marketing, economics, is savvy with technology, graceful with relationships and can think analytically. Where are these people? Are universities properly preparing the next generation supply chain professionals? How do train your existing workforce for these new, demanding positions? Brian Fuller, editor-in-chief of EBN, will lead a 60-minute Avnet Velocity panel discussion that will ask and answer these and other questions swirling around today's supply-chain talent challenges.
