A Roundup of the Latest ResultsWhile Intel’s results were among the most highly-publicized this week (see: 5 Takeaways From Intel's Q2 Results), a number of other component makers and electronics manufacturers announced their quarterly results. Here’s a roundup: Semiconductors AMDAdvanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) (NYSE: AMD)'s revenue reached $1.41 billion, an 11 percent sequential decrease and a 10 percent decrease year-over-year. Net income was $37 million; earnings per share $0.05; and operating income, $77 million. Cypress Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (Nasdaq: CY)’s net income fell to $5 million, or 3 cents per share, compared with $40.8 million, for the second quarter, or 21 cents per share, a year earlier. Revenue fell 21 percent to $201.3 million. Fairchild Fairchild Semiconductor International (Nasdaq: FCS)’s sales of $361.5 million were up 3 percent from the prior quarter and 17 percent lower than the second quarter of 2011. Adjusting for the extra week in Fairchild’s fiscal first quarter, sales grew 11 percent sequentially. Second quarter revenue includes approximately a $4 million insurance recovery related to the Thailand flooding. Second quarter net income of $11.9 million or $0.09 per diluted share was compared to $1.6 million or $0.01 per diluted share in the prior quarter and $44.9 million or $0.34 per diluted share in the second quarter of 2011. Gross margin was 32.6 percent compared to 29.8 percent in the prior quarter and 37.1 percent in the year-ago quarter. FreescaleFreescale Semiconductor Inc. ’s sales were $1.03 billion, compared to $950 million in the first quarter of 2012 and $1.22 billion in the second quarter of last year. Income from operations for the three months ended June 29, 2012, was $112 million, compared to $168 million in the first quarter of 2012 and $31 million in the second quarter of 2011. The net loss for the second quarter of 2012 was $34 million, or $0.14 per share, compared to a loss of $9 million, or $0.04 per share, in the first quarter of 2012, and a loss of $168 million, or $0.79 per share, in the second quarter last year. Adjusted net earnings for the three months ended June 29, 2012, were $17 million, or $0.07 per share, compared to a loss of $9 million, or $0.04 per share, in the first quarter of 2012 and earnings of $70 million, or $0.33 per share, in the second quarter of 2011. MoSysMoSys Inc. (Nasdaq: MOSY)’s total net revenue was $1.7 million, compared with $1.4 million reported in the first quarter of 2012 and $3.3 million in the second quarter of 2011. GAAP net loss for the second quarter of 2012 was $6.6 million, or $0.17 per share, compared with a net loss of $7.2 million, or $0.19 per share, in the previous quarter, and a net loss of $5.7 million, or $0.15 per share, for the second quarter of 2011. RambusRambus Inc. (Nasdaq: RMBS)’s revenue for the second quarter of 2012 was $56.2 million, down 11 percent sequentially from the first quarter of 2012. Net loss for the second quarter of 2012 was $32.2 million as compared to net loss of $27.9 million in the first quarter of 2012 and net loss of $10.6 million in the second quarter of 2011. Diluted net loss per share for the second quarter of 2012 was $0.29, as compared to diluted net loss per share of $0.25 in the first quarter of 2012 and diluted net loss per share of $0.10 in the second quarter of 2011. SanDiskSanDisk Corp. (Nasdaq: SNDK): Total second quarter revenue of $1.03 billion declined 25 percent on a year-over-year basis and declined 14 percent on a sequential basis. On a GAAP basis, second quarter net income was $13 million, or $0.05 per diluted share, compared to net income of $248 million, or $1.02 per diluted share, in the second quarter of fiscal 2011 and $114 million, or $0.46 per diluted share, in the first quarter of fiscal 2012. On a non-GAAP basis, second quarter net income was $51 million, or $0.21 per diluted share, compared to net income of $278 million, or $1.14 per diluted share, in the second quarter of fiscal 2011, and net income of $156 million, or $0.63 per diluted share, in the first quarter of fiscal 2012. Manufacturers PlexusPlexus Corp. (Nasdaq: PLXS)’s revenue: $609 million, relative to guidance of $590 million to $620 million. Diluted EPS: $0.66, including $0.08 per share of stock-based compensation expense, relative to guidance of $0.60 to $0.66. Fiscal third quarter revenues were up 6 percent sequentially to $609 million, above the mid-point of guidance and a record revenue level for the company. Diluted EPS was $0.66, above the mid-point of guidance as the company benefited from foreign currency exchange gains and a reduction in expected tax rates. IP&E AmphenolAmphenol Corp. (NYSE: APH)’s diluted earnings per share of $0.86 were compared to $0.85 per share for the comparable 2011 period. Such per-share amount for the 2011 quarter includes an $18 million ($11 million after tax), or $.06 per share, gain related to the adjustment of a contingent purchase price obligation for a 2010 acquisition. Excluding this effect, diluted earnings per share were $0.79 for the quarter ended June 30, 2011. Sales for the second quarter 2012 were a record $1.061 billion, compared to $1.018 billion for the 2011 period. |
