recreational athletes have been such early adopters with sensors in their bike helmets and fitbits measuring their steps. It's amazing to me that the pros are so far behind!

No. Will more electronics takes away real thrill of watching sports? May be.

Yes. Will it help dispense with refree bias (aka gambler connection) from sport gold medals? To some extent.

Without technology, we won't know, for example, the tennis ball is in or out of court, and of course there would be (real) fights :-)

Unfortunately, outfitting the ball with electronics is not sufficient (at least not in football). We also need to outfit players knee pads and shoes so that we know where the football is located when the players knee hits the ground, and ensure that the feet come down in bounds after the reception. I'm sure there must be more!

Its nice to use new and advanced technologies in sports but people will prefer human action as they have sentiments attached to the game.
