By using inductive charging against the wireless charging , Apple once again has chosen a path to keep its prodcuts proprietary with less chance of similar copies of the products coming into the market.  That way Apple can keep charging premium for its products the way it is doing for its iPhone series of products which use a proprietary IOS platform.
