Engineers are good but sometime myopic. So it is always nice to have team with people from different disciplines. This gives more balanced approach to any spec definition.

Also be receptive to all ideas, not denigrate any idea or perosn.

Non technical people should not make decision on technical issues. So very correct. But in real situations all these non technical people occupy senior management positions in a technical company and start interfering at almost all levels of engineering. Its just so frustrating. They feel this way they can manage engineering but they loose engineers. Its so much pain it is to be working or reporting to a non technical person.

Sometimes it's not a definitive unit of measurement.. It's like your phone: you bring it out and half a day later the battery level drop to 20%, and you know the phone eats a lot of power :-)
