Fascinating topic

This is a fascinating story. Jack Ma of Alibaba recently said the supply chain will be the next big area disrupted by digital technology. Kellogg is cutting costs by moving away from distributing directly to stores and instead delivering to retailer warehouses.

I'm a reporter for Benzinga.com, a financial news service, and I'm interested in doing a story about the changes takinig place in supply chain management. Can you think of some striking example? Is what we're seeing now comparable to the big shift to just-in-time delivery many years ago?

Many thanks

As manufacturers and retailers attempt to cater to disparate markets and a wide variety of preferences, forecasting product demand is getting more complex but not impossible.
Returns create an interesting problem for both retailers and manufacturers that sell online: in addition to predicting a customer's original order, manufacturers and retailers need to be able to forecast how many products make come back to them.
For retailers, it's critical (and expensive) to keep shelves stocked. New technology can cut those costs.
Companies are deluged with customer experience data that was not available in such abundance just a few years ago. Unfortunately, most don't know how to use them to take action.
