Revert To Symbian?

Nokia needs smartphone that can uniquely compete with Android and iPhone, Lumia is good enough but less attractive to consumers. I think,  iPhone hype effect and numerous Android phone makers are major factors. Well, should Nokia next phone product operates on Symbian?

Maybe...

Instead of three options, I would like to see a "maybe" option. I answered with yes, but I am not sure about it.

@Nemos I suppose they figure they have it covered with the existing third option of "I don't know," meaning I don't know for sure, it could go either way. That was my choice, though I was leaning toward "no" as the majority of the poll takers voted because I think it takes more than a single product to turn a company around in most cases.

Nokia must be in a conundrum but both Symbian and MS lack the kind of ecosystem that Andriod or iOS provides. Good hardware is not enough in today's consumerism market.

The perspective you viewed is clearly the mitigating factor for high-technology firms. The likes of IBM, HP, Cisco and even Intel are  also refocusing towards software technololgy.

Lumia vs Razr

Even if Nokia performs well with Lumia even then it will need more smartphones with stellar sales to start gain the market shares. Otherwise Lumia's success will be only like that of Moto Razr.

Ariella, that's my thoughts too. It will take more than a product to turn a company around. In the case of Nokia for example, Lumia smartphone isn't sufficient to propel its market leadership position.

 Himanshugupta,

"Good hardware is not enough in today's consumerism market."

Do you remember when we discussed Nokia Blue Screen? Some people think Windows will help Nokia come back from the abyss. Will it?

What Nokia needs is to create something Nokia, not to try to copycat Apple.

Wale,

"Well, should Nokia next phone product operates on Symbian?"

Why not? Trying wouldn't hurt. It would be more than interesting to launch two parallel phones, one Windows and one Symbian, and see how the market reacts.

@Susan that would be a good idea to see which features are more popular and also not to sink all the company's eggs into a single basket.

Peter Drucker famously said "Trying to predict the future is like trying to drive down a country road at night with no lights while looking out the back window." Yet in the razor's-edge world of electronics—with a lean supply chain and just-in-time demands—the need to know the future is vital. While no one really can accurately predict the future, we can take guidance from another Drucker saying which is the best way to predict the future is to create it.

You've heard the saying "the No. 1 supply chain risk is your people." That hasn't always been the case. But today's complex global supply chain requires a new type of multitalented employee. It's one who understands, finance, marketing, economics, is savvy with technology, graceful with relationships and can think analytically. Where are these people? Are universities properly preparing the next generation supply chain professionals? How do train your existing workforce for these new, demanding positions? Brian Fuller, editor-in-chief of EBN, will lead a 60-minute Avnet Velocity panel discussion that will ask and answer these and other questions swirling around today's supply-chain talent challenges.
