I would prefer "re-cycle" to "re- use"because a component that is removed from a previous electronic can fail in a new one.

@Adenji,I agree with your opinion. But then again you can re-use these used products to build low-cost products where reliability is not a major concern.

@Wale,

well, you are right on that but how do you think a comsumer will feel getting to know that some of the components in his new electornic are "re-used"

Even is there is a fault that can even happen to any electronic device, the first thing he wants to suspect is probably because the components are not entirely new.

while this might be a good avenue for manufacturers to get electronic parts cheap,

would this also not  bring them much trouble of warranty and stuffs like that.

I agree with you because benefit of ewaste's pendulum swings on manufactures' sides than the consumers.

I think manufacturers should pay for electronic waste collection and disposal because they can re-use and re-cycle certain elements from the existing waste (ex : rare-earth materials)  by extracting those elements from the waste. This will help them reduce their manufacturing cost.

I agree with you , both should pay for the waste disposal even though at different levels and probably time.

Nemos, Sometime the manufacturer is unable to pass the extra cost onto customers. In the event of a competitive situation, manufacturers are often compelled to absorb the extra cost.

This question is a bit tricky because in both cases the manufactures can pass the cost to the consumers.

Peter Drucker famously said "Trying to predict the future is like trying to drive down a country road at night with no lights while looking out the back window." Yet in the razor's-edge world of electronics—with a lean supply chain and just-in-time demands—the need to know the future is vital. While no one really can accurately predict the future, we can take guidance from another Drucker saying which is the best way to predict the future is to create it.
