Crazy indeed

Bolaji and Ariella: I don't "do" stocks, but I would invest in Apple. I wouldn't jump at every movement, as I am more of a long-term investor (or rather my husband is). The comment about the one cent and the disconnect between the stock movement and news is funny. At any given moment, there is an Apple story on lawsuits, privacy issues, the supply chain or, of course the iPad. No wonder there are blog sites 100 percent devoted to Apple. It's a full-time job.

@Bolaji Day traders must have enjoyed that movement.  I haven't bought it directly, but I may own shares indirectly as it is one of the stocks included in mutual fund holdings.

Barbara, This is turning into a bad joke turned good turned bad. Yes, Apple's stock price did hit $600.01 (don't ask why the one cent!) today but it then closed at $585.56. The trading range today was $578.55 to $600.01, a spread of about $22 in a single day -- nobody can assure me this is not a speculative stock. I guess it hit $600.01 on good news (don't ask me what) and then fell to $585.56 on bad news (again, don't ask me what.)

But that's not the wackiest thing about the stock right now. Apple's share price climbed to $400 less than two months ago! Yes. At this rate it might hit a million dollar in five years or less. Here's an interesting link: Apple Inc. (AAPL) Hits $600 Mark Only 57 Days After Hitting $400. Are you buying yet?

@Barbara Perhaps they meant the low of $315.32 it hit this past summer. If you would have bought it at that price, you could have nearly doubled your money in less than a year.

Ariella: I read today that Apple hit $600/share today. The article (I forgot where I saw it) said this was a "rebound" in Apple's stock.  Rebound from what? I was unaware that it had tanked!

Yesterday I heard a report that some people continue to buy at these apparently high prices over $500 a share because they believe it can hit $1000 a share.

Apple's stock price is daily setting new record high. A few analysts have raised their target for the stock -- it's now $700 in one case. (See Apple May Climb Above $700 on New iPad.)

That would be good advice if one were to follow what an investment adviser says. They typically suggest buy the low and sell the high but who knows where the high is (will be?) for Apple? It just set a new record price today.

I donot have apple shares but i would not buy them at such a high price. Better to look for other companies where the growth chances are good.

Of course Apple is, who said something different ? We are asking from the readers to define their answer by if they are holding shares or not.

Peter Drucker famously said "Trying to predict the future is like trying to drive down a country road at night with no lights while looking out the back window." Yet in the razor's-edge world of electronics—with a lean supply chain and just-in-time demands—the need to know the future is vital. While no one really can accurately predict the future, we can take guidance from another Drucker saying which is the best way to predict the future is to create it.

You've heard the saying "the No. 1 supply chain risk is your people." That hasn't always been the case. But today's complex global supply chain requires a new type of multitalented employee. It's one who understands, finance, marketing, economics, is savvy with technology, graceful with relationships and can think analytically. Where are these people? Are universities properly preparing the next generation supply chain professionals? How do train your existing workforce for these new, demanding positions? Brian Fuller, editor-in-chief of EBN, will lead a 60-minute Avnet Velocity panel discussion that will ask and answer these and other questions swirling around today's supply-chain talent challenges.
