"Do they really have to sell the car...."

If they're in America, they'll need the money for food. Maybe sell the smartphone, while they're at it.

Whatever way you put it, it's not responsible. It's as bad as driving under the influence.

Do they really have to sell the car, I think just love yourself and show respect for other road users.

It's probably more driving while texting that is the problem. Stop the driving rather than the texting. Maybe sell the car. Stay home.

well, for me I think it has to do with if people are ready to take to instruction and correction. More devices will continue to be added to cars while some will even demand for them in their cars but this has to do largely with discipline

You are right. This is a tricky situation. Perhaps they should find a way not to allow the real driver to turn off, but only the passengers :-)

Therefore, I don't think it would do much good, t.alex. The driver could turn the function off as well if they want to use their device.

I know some GPS products already with this feature in place: they would not allow any interaction if the driver is travelling beyond certain limit. Smartphones should adopt this feature as well. Of course it can be turned off for the case of passengers.
