İt sounds like Sony is trying to clear off some of its debts while trying to show some operational profits through these sales. The upcoming redundancies are also signs of attempts to cut costs.

Why is Sony choosing to sell their headquarters? Are they moving to a different location, or choosing to rent their office space instead, as Motorola is?

Sony's headquarter in the US is for sale!

NO RATINGS

After putting its headquarters in Japan on sale last month for $1.14 billion, Sony is now selling its US headquarter for $1.1 billion. The 37 storey highrise was bought by Sony in 2002.

After clearing the debts of the premises and other sales fees, Sony is hoping to make $770 million from this sale.

As part of its new restructuring targets, Sony is also planning to cut costs by $945 million by making 3000 - 4000 people redundant in Japan and a further 6000 - 7000 globally.
