I have never heard about microbatteries until I read this article. This definitely sounds exciting. And what if these batteries are rechargeable: a lot of great applications and products can be developed.
"A lot of renewable energy progress is stalled due to storage issue. I do not think that 3D printing is a solution but the problem lies in more deep material issues. There is no such material, which is both cheap and high energy density."
Himanshugupta, am not get how 3D printing is concerned with energy storing. Actually the problem with energy storage is requirement of large space for storage. The better solution is less space for more storage and that has yet to be achived.
I have certainly heard a lot about 3D printing applications for producing prototype designs, and it seems very well suited for that task. I hadn't heard about tissue recontruction technology until your article - very interesting!
3D printing is better in a sense as the material loss is minimum. Also the bottom up approach of building things give you a better control and flexibility. The challenge is to use the technology on a wide range of platform and products. I hope that 3D printing does not meet the same fate as 3D televisions.
Jacob, i concur that energy storage is a big challenge today. A lot of renewable energy progress is stalled due to storage issue. I do not think that 3D printing is a solution but the problem lies in more deep material issues. There is no such material, which is both cheap and high energy density.
Bill, there are many alternate energy sources in and around out, but preserving it is a big issue in terms of storage and reuse. Most of our storing technologies has the limitation of the amount of energy it can be store and related loses. I bope the 3D Microbatteries can address these issues up to an extent.
