Alibaba will have a hard time competing with Amazon in America

Guys,

And I know I speak for most Consumers here;Amazon has set a very high standard in this space today.

Its an area where Any upstart entering this market will have to compete super-hard to achieve any form of Success.

Also,Don't forget that Amazon is actually Losing Money today. Is this a viable Business Model in the Long-term?

I have serious doubts.

Sure its nice to scale and Scale Big;but if you don't have any Profits to speak of ;How are you Going to Pay Employees and spend cash on Infrastructure Upgrades?

I don't think Shareholders will always be so kind to Jeff Bezos as they are currently.

Ariella,

In all Fairness,I know plenty of Consumers who swear by a particular set of Services which are'nt exactly Brand-Name.

The Problem(this can be both a Strength& weakness) with Brand Name Products & Services is that they tend to be the same wherever you go.

Then there is also the issue that most of these Services are operated by Franchisees today(whose standard may/may not be upto the market).

You need to keep experimenting until you find something you are Happy with(IMHO).

Regards

Ashish.

@SP yes, to Shakespeare's "What's in a name?" we can answer a lot -- that can make the difference between marketing success and failure.

I hope that is not a photo of JD.COM's Chinese HQ.  If so I would wonder about the quality of their products (only joking here)

Wade, oho Ali Baba is behind this 11 main.com, that's new information. I thought 11 main is an independent C&F (Carry and Forward) agency, which is going to venture into online retail sales too.
