The fact that anyone can post on Wikipedia is its strength and its weakness. Entries relevant to politics, religion, race or sex tend to be polarised - but factual topics are usually monitored by experts and cleared of errors remarkably quickly.

It's a good place to get a summary of a topic - and also a good source of links to more detailed information. I usually start with Wikipedia and then go to more detail.

You can waste a lot of time designing out discretes. ICs are optimised to be as versatile as possible or, in a very large-scale application, to do exactly what is needed for that application. In either case a small change in what is required necessitates a little extra circuitry - and who would use an op-amp where a transistor will do?

@ Nemos - I agree with you on Wikipedia. Unfortunately anyone can put things on Wikipedia. It is sad.

Thank for the advice but it is not needed as I am not using Wikipedia if I want to learn and go deep into the subject. By the way, you can not use reference from Wikipedia in an academic paper.

(The Dry was in quotes, also I think the comments is out of topic, I will not reply further)

Nope, I mean is like an encyclopedia and in most of the cases the language is used is "dry".

Thank you @Rich , but today it is clear enough in my head ("I was confused"). By the way Wikipedia it is a very nice site to have a general picture of almost everything but in my eyes it is not a "real" educational source.

Very nice article James, I am glad that you are here and you can give us such a good technical written information. To be honest, I was always confused with the emitter I thought that it was the output.
