Even as dolls, building blocks, and stuffed toys remain a favorite of kids during the holidays, the biggest hits on the horizon are based on electronics. Clearly, electronics OEMs will be working hard to keep the retail pipe filled with holiday must-haves.
A quick glance at the list of the 2017 Toy of the Year (TOTY) award finalists demonstrates that drones and robots, vehicles, outdoor playthings, games, and even toddler playtime favorites are heavily dependent on electronic components.
The TOTY finalists were selected from among 700 nominated toys from 250 toy companies. The 25 judges included toy and play experts, retailers, academics, and journalists and chose the slate of finalists in 14 different categories. “They considered each product's creativity, originality and innovation; design and promotion; excellence; and marketplace acceptance before narrowing the field to the slate of finalists,” the Toy Industry Association said in a written statement. Winners will be announced Friday, February 17, 2017 at the Intrepid Air and Space Museum as the kick-off to the 114th North American International Toy Fair.
