3PLs & Shippers Enhance Supply Chain Partnerships

The recently-released 21st Annual 3rd Party Logistics Study points to 3PLs and shippers working consistently to enhance relationships and partnerships to improve business outcomes.

In fact, nine out of ten of 3PLs and their customers reported that they felt that their partnerships were successful and beneficial, according to the research which was conducted by Capgemini Consulting, Penn State University, and Penske Logistics. 3PL service benefits were myriad including reduced overall logistics costs and improved customer service and efficacy.

To achieve success, technology will be a key enabler. “Fluctuating capacity, increased shipper demands and disruptions within the industry are creating a volatile decision-making environment for shippers and logistics providers trying to optimize the supply chain. Both parties are increasingly using information and analytics to drive their decisions,” the report said.

When polled about the most important IT-based capabilities, 3PLs pointed to: transport management and planning; electronic data interchange; visibility; warehouse/distribution management and transportation management.
