Though a late entrant, HP seems to be doing some right things in the 3D printing market. The "3D Open Materials and Applications Labs" sounds like a good effort but it is based in Corvallis, OR, which is (with all due respect!) not the hub of a manufacturing locale! Nor is it bustling with R&D activity. Active maker community is essential to the success of 3D printers.

Other marketing collaterals that HP should propagate in an open format are material models and CAD files for the maker / R&D community to use with their printers. To that end, I have not come across HP CAD models in 3DContentCentral or GrabCAD or other open forums. Overall I am very encouraged to see HP finally get its 3D printers off the ground.
