APEX may predominantly be an assembly show, but supply chain and materials management are on the very top of the visitors’ agendas as the deal with changes in tariffs, challenges with counterfeits, and of course, severe component shortages. It turns out that more line efficiency is lost due to missing or incorrect inventory at the SMT line than pretty much any other issue.
With the recent presidential and local elections, trade wars, and tariffs, and of course ‘the wall’, there’s no shortage of topics for discussion around Mexican manufacturing. And at an event in San Diego, California, it was no surprise to see so many colleagues from south of the border.
To make smart factories a reality, OEMS need data that adds value, making inspection data critically important. It could be called , the currency of the smart factory.
Connected factories are one thing, but what about a connected manufacturing ecosystem? Surely more value can be delivered when many sites share data to drive best-in-class performance and global improvements.
