Avnet Embedded Assists Egenera in Launch

PHOENIX– Avnet Embedded, a division of Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas, a business region of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), announced today that it has enabled Egenera, a software manufacturer and Avnet customer, to offer the PAN Manager computing solution to customers to reduce the time to complete IT projects by more than 90 percent. By utilizing Avnet’s proven hardware integration, logistics and channel development services, Egenera now has the opportunity to create customized solutions for a broad range of customers throughout the Americas.

Over the past six months, Egenera worked with Avnet’s team to create customizable hardware solutions, utilizing the capabilities of its integration facilities across the U.S. “Working with Egenera, Avnet has been able to showcase our entire offering: custom hardware, software integration, supply chain logistics – even fulfillment,” said Chuck Kostalnick, senior vice president, Avnet Embedded. “The end result is a true partnership, providing not only a broad spectrum of services to Egenera, but also allowing Egenera’s customers a flexible solution that meets their needs — no matter what configuration they may require.”

Egenera, a company that enables enterprises to quickly create automated, scalable and reliable IT infrastructures, first made contact with Avnet early in 2012, after becoming certified with IBM’s BladeCenter. This achievement left Egenera looking for a qualified partner who could integrate its newly released PAN Manager software with IBM’s BladeCenter chassis, blades, and IBM BNT converged fabric switch. “We were looking for a partner that could help us create a truly bundled solution,” said Jim Bandanza, chief operating officer and executive vice president, Egenera. “And we found that, and so much more, in Avnet.”

The result is a converged infrastructure and management solution that is open, based in industry-leading technology and is factory integrated, so it is easy for the end user to consume and deploy. Now, any customer with complex, mission-critical applications such as banks, government agencies and hospitals has an easy way to deploy systems backed by Egenera’s PAN Manager system. With the integration services provided by Avnet Embedded, new IT projects that use Egenera solutions are deployed 90 percent faster than self-built solutions. Having the software integrated by Avnet means solutions require none-to-limited installation time. The customer can be up and running in days, not weeks.

In an industry poised to hit $64 billion in 2015, according to IDC, companies entering the converged computing marketplace face not only tough competition, but challenges in finding hardware solutions to fit their end-customers’ needs. Avnet Embedded is helping its customers capture new opportunities in this burgeoning market in more ways than one. Egenera plans to use Avnet Embedded for hardware integration, supply chain fulfillment and even marketing outreach for the foreseeable future.
