Avnet Launches Solid State Drive Seminars

SAN JOSE, Calif., Embedded Systems Conference 2011 — As adoption of solid state disk drives (SSDs) accelerates, enterprise and embedded manufacturers’ design engineers have a greater need to understand both the current and future opportunities available in this emerging market. Avnet Embedded, part of the Avnet Electronics Marketing operating group of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), announced today the launch of a SSD seminar series in four locations across North America. These technical seminars are free of charge and feature a keynote address from renowned semiconductor analyst, Jim Handy, director of Objective Analysis. Registration is open now at www.em.avnet.com/ssdseminars2011. The first session takes place in Boston on May 10, 2011.

These day-long seminars will allow design engineers the opportunity to work with the Avnet Embedded technical team, as well as technicians from suppliers Hitachi GST, Intel, Micron, OCZ Technology, Seagate and STEC to understand ways to better implement this technology into current and future designs. These sessions will illustrate how implementing SSDs eliminates seek time, latency and other electro-mechanical delays and failures associated with conventional hard disk drives (HDD). SSDs offer high-reliability and performance, conserving power and improving data retention.

“As the largest distributor of SSD technology, Avnet Embedded is committed to providing the technical training our customers need in the most cost effective manner possible,” said Chuck Kostalnick, senior vice president, Avnet Embedded Americas. “These technical sessions offer our customers a great opportunity to stay abreast of the most current trends in the fast-growing SSD segment and accelerate their time to market.”
