Dell-EMC has put to rest speculation as to who will oversee the merged companies’ channel business with the appointment of John Byrne.
As reported in CRN yesterday, Dell named Byrne as the new global channel chief of Dell-EMC. He was brought into Dell a year ago as VP of sales strategy and operations, but soon after channels was added to his title.
The 27-year sales veteran to CRN he would be meeting with partners in the coming months to build out the company's channel organization and making specific decisions about programs and personnel. The goal is combine two disparate channel organizations into a single channel program for the combined company by the beginning of Dell's fiscal year Feb. 1.
Dell’s purchase of EMC is the largest IT acquisition history and frequently compared to the HP-Compaq merger. But unlike that failed combination, Dell and EMC have much less overlap in their product lines. Regardless, both customers and partners will appreciate further clarity as to how the combined company intends to operate.
Dell’s $62 billion acquisition of EMC is expected to close in October.
