Digi-Key Sponsors Counterfeit Components Series

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. — Electronic components distributor Digi-Key Corporation, recognized by design engineers as having the industry's broadest selection of electronic components available for immediate shipment, is sponsoring Counterfeit Electronic Components, a series of Engineering Essentials webcasts produced by Penton Electronics Group, the first to air on March 2, 2011 at 2 p.m. EST.

Gregory Zawitoski, Director of Business Development for Government Contracts of National Semiconductor's Trusted Solutions Business Unit, will present during the March 2 webcast. The series will include four live episodes and will discuss the danger of acquiring counterfeit products in the electronic component industry.

Counterfeit parts have become a major problem in the electronic component industry, resulting in higher costs, reduced performance, product failures, and extensive program delays. By some estimates, the counterfeiting of electronic parts may cost the industry as much as $100 billion a year.

“As a trusted source for electronic components, Digi-Key considers the content of these webcasts to be considerably significant. We hope the audience and interested employees of supply chains in this industry will gain the knowledge to avoid counterfeit devices and the distribution of products that are a hazard to distributors in this business,” said Dave Doherty, Digi-Key's Vice President of Global Supplier and Product Operations.
