IEEE Launches Smart Grid Newsletter

PISCATAWAY, N.J. — IEEE, the world's largest professional association advancing technology for humanity, today announced the launch of the IEEE Smart Grid Newsletter. A monthly online publication, the IEEE Smart Grid Newsletter features practical and timely technical information and forward-looking commentary on Smart Grid developments and deployments around the world. Designed to foster greater understanding and collaboration between diverse stakeholders, the newsletter brings together experts, thought-leaders, and decision-makers to exchange information and discuss issues affecting the evolution of the Smart Grid. The newsletter’s inaugural issue is available immediately by registering online for a free subscription at

“Thomas Alva Edison and Alexander Graham Bell understood that for the world to truly benefit from technology, a cooperative, free-flowing exchange of ideas, expertise, and knowledge was needed. It was this vision that led them to help found the organization that is now IEEE,” said Dr. S. Massoud Amin, IEEE Smart Grid Newsletter Chair, and Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Director of the Technological Leadership Institute at the University of Minnesota. “Today, we continue to follow the founding principles of these two great pioneers with the launch of the IEEE Smart Grid Newsletter, which explores the deepening convergence and overlay of sensors, communications technologies, and control systems within the energy infrastructure. By encouraging a richer, more meaningful dialog among individuals and organizations working to bring the Smart Grid from concept to reality, IEEE continues to maintain its legacy of leadership and technology excellence for the betterment of all.”

Distributed to subscribers via email, the IEEE Smart Grid Newsletter is a technically focused, theme-based publication highlighting the most important and current understanding of Smart Grid technology developments, innovations, and trends from the world's top subject matter experts, researchers, and practitioners. The newsletter’s content will address the intersection and integration of multiple technologies, such as power and energy, sensing, measurement, signal processing, communications, controls, security, standards, and materials and devices that are needed to bring the Smart Grid into being. With articles ranging from practical, technical pieces based on real-world experiences to provocative commentary from leading opinion-makers, the IEEE Smart Grid Newsletter is designed for a broad, cross-disciplinary audience, including designers, engineers, researchers, and policymakers.
