Infographic: Skills Gap Felt Globally

If you're in electronics, you're in luck. A global skills gap is driving demand for your expertise. The demand is not as great in developed regions such as North America, Japan, and Europe, but if you're willing to export your skills to a BRIC country (Brazil, Russian, India, China), you could find yourself very well compensated.

That's the takeaway from this infographic, which shows where the skills gap is widest and how it's affecting R&D, productivity, and growth in those areas.

    Interesting to see the skills requirements from China.  They are all in the front end research, design and IP creation. I guess they have manufacturing pretty much nailed so the rest of the world better watch out 😉

    @flyingscot… watch out indeed! Although one thing you hear from (granted) U.S. companies that have some level of design activity in China is that innovation is a different animal. Each new generation for the Chinese (I've been told) is about smaller and cheaper rather than about bigger picture moves like functional integration, software strategy and so on. 

    That won't last forever though, especially if R&D skills ramp quickly in the coming years.

    Skill gap is huge in most of the fields not only in technology. I seriously cannot figure out why it is but it is getting wider and wider day by day. Maybe that the technology is moving fast and we are not capable enough to move with the same pace. It may sound like it does not have any direct link with the skill gap thing but indirectly skills are decided on how well you know and can adapt towards the changes isn't it ?

    China does have a bright future in R&D, but it is not clear whether the current leadership is doing the right thing to rebalance the country's economy which is suffering from bad governance. There are many alarming signs that show that China economy might collapse within the next 5 years if necessary actions were not taken. (see Has China's bright future turned dim?)

    No doubt, China has the manufactering power, but it doesn't have invention and innovation powers. What would Chinese do if foreign companies pulled out of the country?

    The information about the level of expertise and the number of years of required experience is missing. I am very certain that the entry level jobs and upto 5 years of experience kind of jobs are hard to find as there are enough young people. But with many MNCs setting up their shops in BRIC nations, finding experts and executives will be challenging in here.

    No doubt, China has the manufactering power, but it doesn't have invention and innovation powers.

     

    Why do you think that is the case? They certainly have plenty of personnel to draw from. Perhaps if they change their focus from replication to innovation, they can generate the innovation that is currently lacking.

    Is it simply that they can't find anyone to work there? Is it that they are looking for trained employees? Trained employees that are willing to work for nothing? The BRIC countries have a reputation for underpaying engineers.

    Agreed on underpayment also there is unnecessary pressure and stress working in many of these countries
