"Walking up the courier with a large box can be troublesome so I guess its better to opt for the pick up facility. "

Syed, for that service I won't be able to pay anything extra too.

Jacob:

Sure. You can benefit on the convenience factor too. Walking up the courier with a large box can be troublesome so I guess its better to opt for the pick up facility.

"Customers want ease & reliability in delivering their products. I used to send documents with DHL only because I trusted their service and tracking. However, we had different local options that were much cheaper. But for me reliability always wins over a small increase in charges. "

Syed, I am using DHL because they used to extend the credit and home pick up facility for me. For me it weights more than walking to the service provider and paying a ready cash.

Yes, you are absolutely correct. Customers want ease & reliability in delivering their products. I used to send documents with DHL only because I trusted their service and tracking. However, we had different local options that were much cheaper. But for me reliability always wins over a small increase in charges.

Syed, I agree with you, but customers are always looking for comfortablity in dealing and door step services. Moreover, companies/vendors are interested to make their customers more comfortable.

Exactly. Cost cutting has been the talk of the decade if you ask me. Today, cost savings measures are being considered more than ever before. So, if a company is able to bring down transportation costs they will end up getting more business.

Exactly, Syedzunair. A shipping company with lower costs on fuel may be able to get more business because they can ship items for cheaper.

But if we look at the larger picture, Jacob it seems to help the bottomline. Although I agree that it is not the job of the shipping industry but still it helps in bringing the overall costs down.

"Makes good sense and ends up in saving costs. "

Syed, its true with shipping/logistic companies. But for customers, it may add more overheads and no price difference too.

"One more recent fuel efficiency improvement was the air dam addition to the bottom of trailers which you see a lot of now, at least in North America. Other items are more efficient air flow and engine designs, lighter weight materials, etc."

Clairvoyant, thanks for the clarification. I think these are the steps taken by automobile industries and not from the logistic/shipping companies. Apart from that, any other measures from shipping companies.
