Mouser Vies For Top Employer

MANSFIELD, TX – Mouser Electronics, Inc., a top design engineering resource and global distributor for electronic components, could be the top employer in all of Texas. The company, which employs nearly 1,000 people at its global headquarters in Mansfield and pumps more than $835 million into our economy every year, is a top five finalist to be the 2012 Employer of the Year.

The award will be presented by the Texas Workforce Commission at its annual conference Nov. 28-30 at the Gaylord in Grapevine. This could be the second award Mouser will receive at the conference. Mouser is set to receive the Local Employer of Excellence Award for Tarrant County, nominated by the Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County, the local board.

“We want to thank Texas’ Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County for this nomination,” says Glenn Smith, President and CEO of Mouser Electronics. “We are extremely proud to be a part of this community and it gives me great personal satisfaction to know that our efforts have touched so many families.”

Mouser, the largest private employer in Mansfield, is one of the leading employers in the region. In recent years the company has grown by a phenomenal 20 percent year over year. “In addition to the 1,100-plus we employ directly, our operations help support more than 2,000 local vendors and suppliers throughout the economy,’’ explains Paula Holcomb, Mouser Electronics’ Vice President of Human Resources who has overseen the recent hiring surge. “That translates into salaries of more than $46 million a year. We are very excited to be named among the top employers in the state.”

Judy McDonald, Executive Director of Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County said: “Mouser’s deep commitment as an active partner with workforce and economic development, as well as the education system, has made them one of the region’s most valuable assets.”

In addition to speaking to classes and serving on school advisory boards in Mansfield, Mouser staff members this year offered their expertise to the area high school robotics team and helped students build a solar car. The company sponsored a NASA uplink for local students to speak directly to astronauts aboard the International Space Station. Mouser also has given back to the community through numerous charity sponsorships, including donations to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Tarrant Area Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity and other non-profit organizations. “Through our ongoing sponsorships and partnerships with schools, we are committed to fostering educational innovation and excellence particularly in math and science,” Holcomb adds. “Our hope is to motivate students to explore careers in engineering and advanced technologies.”
