MANSFIELD, Texas — Mouser Electronics, Inc. is now stocking the AP3988 Primary Side Power Switcher from Diodes Incorporated. This enhanced, off-line, side-switching controller is designed to cut costs and improve power supply performance by providing primary-side control that eliminates the need for opto-couplers and secondary-side control circuitry. With this device, designers can reduce component count, board space requirements and cost, while enjoying primary-side regulation results that equate to higher efficiency and reliability with less heat generated in the power supply.
The Diodes Incorporated AP3988 Primary Side Power Switcher, available from Mouser Electronics, regulates the output voltage by using piece-wide pulse frequency modulation (p‑PFM) in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM), where analog levels are represented as fixed-duration pulses with various rates of repetition. The system operating frequency reduces linearly from heavy load to light load in each interval of the p-PFM, and enters constant current mode when the load current is equal to the maximum system output current. Transistors with 700VCBO are built into the device, and feature a low start-up current that is just 0.2μA (typical).
