Vishay Wins Philippine Awards

MALVERN, Pa. — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today announced that its manufacturing operations in suburban Manila have received three awards for environmental and safety performance from the Philippine government in 2010. They include a Certificate of Recognition for environmental performance from the Office of the President and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources; an Energy Efficiency and Outstanding Energy Management award from the Department of Energy; and a Safety Milestone Award from the Department of Labor.

The Certificate of Recognition for environmental performance was personally awarded to Vishay by Philippines President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Only seven other companies in the Philippines received this prestigious award. To be considered, Vishay Philippines had to meet government environmental targets, be 100 % compliant with all legal requirements respecting permits, emissions, wastewater effluent and recycling standards, and show continuous improvement year over year. The plant actually exceeded the environmental targets by more than 20 %.

Vishay Philippines employs more than 630 associates manufacturing optoelectronic components such as infrared emitters, photo detectors, remote control receivers, LEDs, and optical sensors. The plant is ISO14001 and 9001, OHSAS18001, and TS16949 certified and encompasses 12,839 square meters.
